Saw this sitting on a wall and just had to paint it. Wonder what story it could tell?

Sam Maloof Foundation
Today I had the good fortune to accompany my friend and artist, Helga Batman to the Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts. Sam Maloof is a master furniture craftsman - his work is in the Smithsonian. His home and property are now dedicated to the arts. There is a museum, his works shop tours, beautiful gardens and his new home. I had the good fortune to see him enjoying the lovely afternoon on his patio. Anyhow, here is one of his chairs and my paintings.

"There’s a lot of work being done today that doesn’t have any soul in it. The technique may be the utmost perfection, yet it is lifeless. It doesn’t have a soul. I hope my furniture has a soul to it."

California Gold
This weekend our family visited the Citrus Historic State Park in Riverside. One thing they pointed out in the museum is that the citrus industry was every bit as important to the development of California as the discovery of Gold up North. The park is beautiful, well worth a visit. I photographed this indoors, so is not real sharp. SOLD

New Field - Gilroy
You will have to bear with me. I have a few more Gilroy paintings left in me! Now that we live in the mountains where we have nothing but twisty roads and tall trees, I am enamoured with open spaces and straight rows!

Spring Break in Gilroy
The weather was perfect in California this weekend. Wild flowers are in bloom, produce is in abundance, fields full of cabbages, strawberries, mustard and other greens. We drove up the center of the state to Gilroy - Garlic capital of the Nation and home of my husband's parents. I enjoyed taking time off from visiting with family, shopping with my girls at the outlets and eating very authentic Mexican food, to paint in the fields. Here the poppies dot the green hill sides with Oak trees along the ridge.

To a Point
I spent all day today painting at the Riverside Art Museum. It was great fun and smelled heavenly. Local floral designers had arranged displays to go with the painting exhibition. The Plein Air Painters of Riverside sat in the galleries painting the floral displays.
I chose to focus in on this bit of old fence, gladiolus and rose for my first painting. The second will be displayed tomorrow.

Yellow House
Monday I had some time to kill in Redland's so decided to wander around the old down town neighbourhood with my camera. This little house caught my eye. It is by no means the fanciest house on the block, but sure was inviting.

Art Alive Exhibition
I felt the need to dive right into one of my larger paintings today - which I should have completed for tomorrow. Forgive my not posting a small painting today. I'll get to it tomorrow!
Friday I will be painting on site at the Riverside Art Museum - for the Art Alive exhibition. I have a ballet painting on display for this exhibit as well. The theme is all things French. Through out the weekend there will be artists painting on site and fresh floral arrangements on display - designed by local florists. Sunday we will display our wet work while the author Susan Vreeland talks about her latest novel Luncheon of the Boating Party. If you are in the area it will make a nice afternoon out. For more information you can go to the RAM website http://www.riversideartmuseum.org/
