Joshua Trees in Bloom

Yesterday we spent the day in Joshua Tree National Park with our friends visiting from England. The park was beautiful in a strange Dr. Seuss sort of way. I kept expecting the Lorax to wander out from behind one of the strange cacti or piled boulders. The Joshua and most of the cacti were in bloom. The sky was the most intense blue and the temp in the 70's. Who could ask for more? FYI, did you know that Joshua Trees are not cacti? They are very large lilies.

Daffodil Hill

Not far from Running Springs there is a place called Daffodil Hill. A woman started planting bulbs nearly 50 years ago and now they sweep over and around a mountain side. Unfortunately the recent fires did destroy some of the bulbs but it is still beautiful.

Water Play

Saturday we celebrated my daughter's birthday at Corona del Mar. It was a glorious afternoon. Our friend's little boy was having the best of times playing in the surf. I just had to capture his fun. Simple things can bring so much pleasure.

All Weather Vehicle

Franz and I went to New Orleans a few weeks ago. On our first day the skies opened and the heaven's poured. We took shelter in a coffee house - this bicycle was not as fortunate. SOLD

A friend of mine has heirloom chickens and they lay the most beautiful eggs. Nature's colors are far lovelier than the colors that come in the food dye box. SOLD

Hot Water Bottle

This painting will look great in your vintage, retro, or traditional bathroom. This particular water bottle was purchased in England - the occasion being a daughter with an ear ache. Recently though I have found it is fabulous for warming my feet on a cold winter night.

Sunday Legos

Call me old fashioned, but I feel we have too much noise pollution these days. We need to turn off the TV, X-box 360, itunes, and leaf blowers! How nice to find my daughter quietly, thoughtfully, ensconced in her Legos Sunday afternoon.
James Russell Lowell said
"Solitude is as needful to the imagination as society is wholesome for the character."
I think it goes without saying that solitude involves time to hear and to listen.

Spring in a Can

I had planned on painting outside this weekend but as snow balls the size of peas and marbles started coming down I decided to rescue a few narcissus and come inside. The Coke can is c. 1972 - archeology from our back yard.

Comfort Food

What we have here is a bowl of chicken matzoh ball soup. Why? Well, one of the first sentences I learned to say was "mo matzobo mommy", much to the surprise of our Jewish neighbour who thought of my parents as gentiles. To this day there is nothing more comforting than a bowl of home made chicken soup with matzoh balls. Yum.
